Let's Keep Our Roads Safe!
Welcome to the Coalition on Responsible Driving (CORD). We are here to help support safe driving practices in Montezuma, Dolores, and La Plata Counties.
By keeping our roads safe, we can keep our communities safe.
Did you know...
Motor vehicle crashes are one of the biggest causes of death in Colorado?
And we are here to help.
Who We Are
The Coalition on Responsible Driving (CORD)'s mission is to reduce the number of alcohol related activities and increase safe driving in Montezuma County, Dolores County and La Plata County. We accomplish this by providing prosocial activities for youth, a communications campaign that brings community awareness to the harms associated with impaired driving, increasing alternative transportation options and providing education on unrestrained passengers.
Our Programs
Ride Responsible
One of the biggest things that contributes to impaired driving in our area is the lack of alternative transportation options. This means that it can be hard to find a safe way home if you don't have a sober driver. That is why we partner with The City of Durango and local nonprofits to provide buses or shuttles when there are big events to help people get home safely. Looking for safe transportation at your event? Fill out the form below!
Coalition On Responsible Driving
This coalition brings together stakeholders from city government, local nonprofits, first responders, state patrol, schools and more to create a community of safe drivers. Each organization who we partner with directly, or through collaborative meetings, brings a unique perspective to the table. Together, we can make the roads a safer place. To join our coalition meetings, follow the link below:

Meet Our Coalition
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. That is why we work with a variety of partners across La Plata County, Montezuma County, and Dolores County. We couldn't make a difference without this wonderful team.
The Hive
Just as bees work together in every effort for the greater good of the entire hive, The Hive intend to operate in the same manner. They are committed to creating a space that inspires individuals to better their own lives and the health of the Community. The Hive provides a place for youth and Community members to explore life skills through various recreational opportunities, art, music and creating a place of belonging, empowerment
and self-accomplishment.
Students Tackling Unhealthy Decisions
Based in Dove Creek, Colorado, Students Tackling Unhealthy Decisions (STUD) works to increase the social emotional capacity of youth. They are a school-based program that focuses on impaired driving prevention and mental health capacity building. STUD is our Dolores County safe driving champion organization.
Montezuma County Public Health Department
Here at CORD, we value public/private partnerships. That is why we are working with the Public Health Department in Montezuma County. Through our collaboration, we are able to offer expanded car seat safety services and education. The Health Department also leads an Injury Prevention Coalition with First Responders, Nonprofits, The State Patrol, and Hospital Representatives.
Pinon Project
The Piñon Project Family Resource Center is a a non-profit organization that was created in 1994 in response to a grassroots movement to create a healthier future for Montezuma County. Today, with strong community support, The Piñon Project provides services that promote outcomes for over 3,000 families and their children in SW Colorado every year.
